CVB offers historical trolley tours to local elementary schools
02/01/10
Students at WES enjoyed a trip on the CVB's trolley and learned a little McPherson history
The sharp peel of the trolley peel brought cheers from the students in the fifth grade classes of Mrs. Hemenway and Mrs. Gottwald as they exited the city's red and green trolley. Students were treated to a free 45-miniute historical tour on the trolley courtesy of the McPherson Convention and Visitors Bureau. The trolley, which was purchased in 2008 with guest tax revenue collected from local hotels, seats up to 26 and is handicap-accessible. Students were given gift bags and a postcard with a trivia question they could enter into a drawing for a chance to win a free T-shirt. "This is typically a slow time of year for the trolley and we like to get it out and running if we can," CVB Director Anne Hassler said. The tour covers popular local spots such as the McPherson Opera House, county courthouse, NCRA Refinery and historic homes on Maple and Walnut Streets. The tour script was funded by a grant from the Kansas Humanities Council. Information on booking a tour for your child's class is available by calling the CVB at (620) 241-3340.
